ADULT PROGRAMS

Adult Bible Study, Tuesdays, 9:30-11:00am, Maglaras Hall

Holy Comforter’s weekly Adult Bible Study convenes again on Tuesday morning, September 3, 9:30-11:00 in Maglaras Hall. All adults are invited to join in deepening our understanding and experience of our Christian faith and Judeo-Christian heritage.

Our studies this fall will begin with Sermon on the Mount: A Beginner’s Guide to the Kingdom of Heaven by Amy-Jill Levine. The book is available for purchase on Amazon. Participants are encouraged to read Matthew 5-7 at least once before our first session.

Dr. Levine teaches New Testament and Jewish studies at Vanderbilt University’s Divinity School and College of Arts and Sciences. Raised in a Jewish home in a predominantly Catholic neighborhood in Massachusetts, she once described herself as a "Yankee Jewish feminist who teaches in a predominantly Protestant divinity school in the buckle of the Bible Belt."

In this very accessible book, Dr. Levine provides perspective on Jesus and his teachings, how they were understood by his disciples and other early followers, and how they “speak across the centuries” to us today. For more information contact Ann Cairns, biblestudy@holycomforterchurch.net.

Centering Prayer meets on Zoom every Tuesday from 1:30-3:00pm
