Transition Underway for our Farmers’ Market - A Note from Dave Carter
Since 2011, the Broomfield Farmers’ Market at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church has operated as a totally-volunteer mission, with all proceeds supporting the greater Broomfield community. Managing and operating a farmers' market is hard, time-intensive and physical work. After 14 years, and increasingly hotter summer weather, it was becoming apparent that our volunteer team was losing some of the energy needed to make the market a continued success for our vendors and visitors.
Fortunately, we were able to connect with the developers of the new Palisades community in North Broomfield to develop a transition plan for the market. Beginning June 5th, the Broomfield Farmers’ Market will move to the Palisade Amphitheater, located at the corner of Baseline Road and Palisade Parkway in Broomfield. In addition to the amphitheater, there is an extremely large, grassy soccer field that will be used for the farmers’ market. Please check the E-news periodically for more information on the transition of our market, and plan to visit it in the new location this summer!
Our History
The Broomfield Foundation honored the Broomfield Farmers Market with the Heart of Broomfield ward in 2022. Since then, it has steadily grown into a vibrant community gathering place.
Jubilee Ministry
The Broomfield Farmers’ Market at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church at Hwy 287 and West 10th Avenue was officially designated as a Jubilee Ministry by the national Episcopal Church for its work in helping to bring healthy, locally-grown food to area residents, and especially to people in need. The National Episcopal Church created the Jubilee Ministry program two decades ago to support efforts across the nation and world to battle poverty and injustice.
Our Mission
When we launched the farmers’ market in 2011, we established the mission, “To create a destination that connects the community with healthy food and local farmers, and a destination that demonstrates the stewardship commitment of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter.” From Day One, the market was never about “us,” but rather about outreach to our larger community. In 2023, for example, we distributed $2,800 in $20 vouchers to local educators during our annual Teacher Appreciation Day, provided local moms with $610 in vouchers through our partnership with Broomfield Health and Human Services through the WIC program, and continued to double purchasing power for residents on the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program funded solely through fees we received from our vendors.
